Ronda - Benaocaz
Picturesque village belonging to the province of Cadiz at the way between Villaluenga del Rosario and Ubrique. It has got a nice landscape due to its placement at the known as "manga de Villaluenga", and being one of the villages of the known as "Route of the white villages". It is located inside the humid area of the Mountain Range of Grazalema, near the hill of St. Cristobal and the river Guadalete, enjoying for that reason of excellent pasture land. Its limits are, at the north, the village of Grazalema, at the east, the village of Villaluenga and at the south, the village of Ubrique.
It raises sheep and goat cattle as well as pigs at its holm oaks groves. It was founded by the Arabs and at 1485 it was conquered by the Christians, being at 1490 domain of don Rodrigo Ponce de León, marquis of Cadiz. Its church has got elements which remember the mosque's minaret it was once upon a time. It is also remarkable the building of the City hall, built at the time of the King Charles III. The church, raised in honour of St,. Peter, consists of three naves being the central of them covered by a semicircular vault. In one of its chapels is worshiped the sculpture of the Christ tied to a column, known as "El Amarrao", made at 1761 and being whorsiped by the whole population.
On february, 3rd, is organized the procession in honour of St. Blas, Patron Saint of the village, with its carrying platform throne filled with cold cuts. On juny, 1st, is celebrate the pilgrimage of St. Esteban and in august, 14th to 17th is celebrated a Fair with the tied bull and the cow's running.
